Boehner Statement on the December Employment Report
GOP Leader: “America cannot buy its way to prosperity with more and more government spending.”

Washington, Jan 9 - After this morning’s release of the U.S. Labor Department’s monthly employment report, House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement:

“Middle-class families and small businesses continue to face some of the most daunting challenges they have ever confronted.  It is essential that both parties work together on a responsible economic plan that lets working families keep more of what they earn and gives employers real incentives to create good-paying jobs.  I am pleased that President-elect Obama agrees with Republicans that substantial tax relief must be an important component of the final bill Congress sends to his desk, and I am hopeful that he and his Democratic colleagues will join us in our commitment to a plan that does not burden future generations with massive debt that will make long-term economic growth and job creation impossible.  America cannot buy its way to prosperity with more and more government spending.  This is a moment when Republicans and Democrats alike must come together behind a plan that rejects the failed ‘borrow and spend’ philosophy and strikes the appropriate balance necessary for bipartisan passage.”
