House GOP Introduces Better Solution to Clean Up Environment, Lower Gasoline Prices, Create More American Jobs
Washington,
Jun 10 -
House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today issued the following statement on the American Energy Act, legislation introduced today by House Republicans to clean up the environment, lower energy costs, and create more American jobs:
“The House Republicans’ American Energy Act – not the Democrats’ national energy tax – is the fastest route to a cleaner environment, lower energy costs, and more American jobs. The Democrats’ national energy tax will be paid by anyone who drives a car, buys an American-made product, or flips on a light switch. That means a yearly average of $3,100 in higher energy costs for middle-class families – and fewer jobs for American workers. Instead of establishing a new tax that will only drive prices up further, the American Energy Act offers better solutions to bring them down. It does ‘all of the above’ by producing more American energy in an environmentally safe way, promoting the use of alternative fuels to reduce carbon emissions, such as clean coal and nuclear, and encouraging increased efficiencies and cutting edge technologies to maximize America’s energy potential.
“While Democrats seek to saddle the middle class and small businesses with a costly national energy tax, the American Energy Act is the solution that Americans support for cleaner air and water, lower energy costs, and more jobs for American workers. I thank Rep. Mike Pence and his American Energy Solutions Group for their work on this legislation, and I urge Democrats to consider our ideas in the ongoing energy and environment debate in Washington.”
NOTE: The American Energy Act establishes a renewable energy trust fund that would increase environmentally-safe energy production far off our shores and in remote areas of the West and use revenues generated through this production to support innovation in renewable and alternative energy sources, like wind and solar technologies. The legislation also establishes a national goal of licensing 100 new nuclear reactors over the next twenty years by streamlining a burdensome regulatory process and ensuring the recycling and safe storage of spent nuclear fuel.
