Boehner on the Radio: Speaker Pelosi’s Gov’t Takeover of Health Care Costs $1.3 Trillion “And Still Counting”
GOP Leader: “They Are Going to Raise the Cost of Health Insurance in America. Our Bill Will Lower the Cost of Health Insurance in America.”
Washington,
Nov 3 -
During a national radio interview on The Michael Medved Show earlier today, House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) outlined how Speaker Pelosi’s 1,990-page government takeover of health care – at a price tag of $1.3 trillion and counting – will increase the cost of health insurance, raise taxes, destroy jobs, and cut Medicare benefits for seniors. The better solutions House Republicans are offering, Boehner said, would lower health care costs and expand access to quality, affordable coverage without adding to the crushing debt Washington has placed on our children and grandchildren. Boehner also discussed how the GOP plan would help Americans with pre-existing conditions obtain access to the quality, affordable coverage they need. Following are key excerpts of Boehner’s interview:
BOEHNER NOTES PRICE TAG OF SPEAKER PELOSI’S 1,990-PAGE GOV’T TAKEOVER OF HEALTH CARE AT $1.3 TRILLION “AND STILL COUNTING:”
“You know, people don’t want some 1,990-page bill authored by Nancy Pelosi that’s going to cost $1.3 trillion and still counting. They don’t want this government takeover because that’s exactly what it is. [AUDIO] … They are going to raise the cost of health insurance in America. Our bill will lower the cost of health insurance in America. It will allow you to keep the doctor that you choose. It will not raise taxes. It will not cut Medicare. It won’t have a bunch of silly mandates on it.” [AUDIO]
BOEHNER HIGHLIGHTED REPUBLICANS’ BETTER SOLUTIONS TO MAKE HEALTH CARE MORE AFFORDABLE AND ACCESSIBLE AT A PRICE OUR NATION CAN AFFORD:
“First, let’s end junk lawsuits and the defensive medicine that doctor’s practice as a result. Why wouldn’t we allow people to cross state lines to buy health insurance – either individuals or businesses or groups of businesses – where you can create more competition as a result? How about innovative state programs – that we want to reward states who are out there doing things that will lower the cost of health care in their states. I think that making sure that there is no federal funding going to abortion is a good idea. I think promoting wellness and prevention by giving employers greater flexibility to financially reward employees who adopt healthier lifestyles is a step in the right direction. I think we ought to enhance Health Savings Accounts. I think we ought to allow dependents to stay on their parents’ policies through age 25. These are things that we can do that will lower health care costs in our country.” [AUDIO]
BOEHNER SAYS GOP PLAN HELPS AMERICANS WITH PRE-EXISTING AMERICANS OBTAIN ACCESS TO QUALITY, AFFORDABLE COVERAGE:
“The money that we save from medical malpractice reform, we use to enhance the 34 state high risk pools for those who have pre-existing conditions. We enhance those programs and we encourage the other 16 states to have these same kind of high risk pools. So that people with pre-existing conditions can get affordable, high-quality health insurance. … When you bring the cost of health insurance down, guess what? More people can afford it.” [AUDIO]
