Boehner Statement on Today’s Employment Report
Democrats’ War on Jobs Threatens Economic Growth, Family Budgets

Washington, Jan 4, 2008 - Following the release of a new jobs report from the U.S. Department of Labor this morning, House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) warned that future job growth and family budgets will be placed at further risk by congressional Democrats’ ongoing War on American Jobs:

“American families are feeling the squeeze of rising costs of living from spiking gasoline and energy prices, as well as increasing costs of health care, housing, and taxes. But family budgets will only be placed at greater risk by the harmful economic policies championed by this Congress.

“One year ago today, the 110th Congress opened with promises of a new direction and bipartisan cooperation. But over the past 12 months, the Democratic Majority has offered nothing more than a tax-and-spend, mandate-and-regulate agenda that places American families and small businesses at even greater economic risk. Last year, the House passed bills raising taxes by $250 billion and proposed tax hikes that threaten more than 16 million jobs – including mind-boggling tax hikes on gasoline, at a time when the price at the pump is higher than ever. They asked taxpayers and small businesses to bankroll $180 billion in new entitlement spending and worthless, wasteful pork-barrel projects. And they opened new doors for job-killing litigation and regulation on businesses of all sizes.

“At a time when American families and small businesses are struggling with financial uncertainty, this irresponsible, job-killing agenda cannot continue. It’s time for the Majority to work with Republicans in a bipartisan way on behalf of the American people who expect it.”

NOTE: House Republicans last month released “Death by a Thousand Cuts: Democrats’ War on American Jobs,” a comprehensive report cataloging a Democratic agenda that threatens millions of U.S. jobs and family budgets at a time when many Americans are grappling with the rising cost of living and record tax burdens. The full report is available here, while more information about the ongoing War on American Jobs can be found at http://republicanleader.house.gov/waronjobs.
