Statement by House GOP Leader John Boehner (R-OH) on Democrats’ Vote to Kill Proposed Earmark Freeze

Washington, Apr 2, 2008 - House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today issued the following statement after the Democratic Majority in the House voted to block a vote on legislation that would have imposed a moratorium on all taxpayer-funded earmarks:

“Just weeks after leading Americans to believe they would join House Republicans in supporting an immediate freeze on all taxpayer-funded earmarks, Democratic leaders in the House today killed it.  By refusing to join House Republicans in a full earmark freeze, the Majority has proven once again that it is just not serious about reforming the way Washington spends taxpayer dollars.  Instead, Democratic leaders have chosen to resume showering their newly-elected members in taxpayer-funded pork, using taxpayer money to build monuments to themselves, and engaging in other wasteful practices the American people want stopped.

“The action today by House Democrats is a stunning reversal, and a stinging slap in the face to millions of Americans who want real change in the way Washington spends taxpayers’ money.”
