Job-Killing Energy Tax Vote Nearing; Will Democrats Support the Middle Class or New Taxes?Posted by Kevin Boland on June 25th, 2009
Speaker Pelosi will try to ram her national energy tax through Congress tomorrow, with Roll Call quoting one senior staffer saying that “she’s going all out” despite the fact that Republicans and “many moderate Democrats said they still have questions or concerns about the package and either cannot yet say whether they support it or are leaning against it.” Members of Congress aren’t the only people who are expressing concerns about the Speaker’s job-killing tax; a Washington Post/ABC News poll released this morning found that a majority (54 percent) opposed the Speaker’s energy tax if it “raised your monthly electrical bill by 25 dollars a month” - $300 annually - even if it “significantly lowered greenhouse gases” (question 36). The fact is higher electricity costs are just one of the consequences of this burdensome national energy tax. Pelosi’s national energy tax is a 1,201 page convoluted mess of new regulations and punitive taxes, as the following chart illustrates: Any wonder the Wall Street Journal stated in an editorial today that Speaker Pelosi’s bill “defies the laws of economics.” The Journal continued:
Speaker Pelosi and her cohorts in Congress won’t admit that their “cap-and-trade” bill is nothing more than a giant energy tax on the middle class. But many prominent Democrats have spoken out against “cap-and-trade” and aren’t afraid to call it by its name - a national energy tax. Yesterday, Warren Buffett led the charge in an interview on CNBC where he stated that “cap-and-trade” is “a huge tax and there’s no sense calling it anything else.” Even the longest serving Member of the House, former Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman John Dingell (D-MI), has called Pelosi’s “cap-and-trade” bill for what it is: “a tax and a great big one.” House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) said in a press conference today: “Mark my words: The American people are going to remember this vote. This will be a defining moment in a defining vote in this Congress. And the real question is: Where are the Democrats going to stand on this?” It’s a good question - one the Democrats will have to answer tomorrow. Yes. The American people ARE listening… but more importantly they are waking up. For the last 2 days I have followed the house on CSPAN.. I have found the truth therein. The wonderful news however is that it was seen that I am not alone. Good people who are speaking out on CSPAN gives me great hope. I must say, I am so proud of so many members of the house making their voices heard… not choosing to go down silently, but relentlessly demanding we return to a state of reason, to remain a free country and stand for the Constitution of the United States of America. I wanted to thank certain ones that I listened to and that have helped me understand all too well the situation at hand: Rep. Mike Pence, Rep. Virginia Foxx, Rep. Mike Simpson, Rep. Mike Nunes, House Rep. Leader John Boehner, Rep. Rob Bishop, Rep. Judy Biggert, Rep. Phil Roe, Rep. Marsha Blackburn. There are many others of course so this list is by no means complete. WE ARE LISTENING… KEEP MAKING YOUR VOICES HEARD! History has proven time and time again that the truth spoken and the people freed from deception and lies does cause change.. perhaps we will not be too late in changing the destruction of our economy and ultimately our freedom… our freedom to debate, our freedom to choose, and ultimately our freedom to be free from the enslavement by our own government that this administration is so speedily trying to set up!

Dear Members of the House:
There is no doubt that you should vote NO to the Cap and Tax bill being considered. This is not a global warming bill but a way to tax us, the citizens of this country.
Fact is that there is no global warming ocurring now and there has not been global warming since 2001.
The fact that the amount of CO2 has gone up without an increase in global warming should tell you that CO2 is not an issure. This carbon tax is just a means to tax us the citizens. Counties like Australia and France are waking up and voting against carbon tax. WHY CAN THE HOUSE NOT WAKE UP AND VOTE NO TO THE CAP AND TRADE BILL

Congressman Boehner you were fantastic on the floor last night, I watched every minute of C-Span. I wish you were my congressman, but I’m in Tim Ryan’s district, and will be working very hard to see that he is not re-elected.

Yes, great job Mr. Boehner. I wish we had more like you!

Everything the Republicans seem to do right now is about fear. When all that is happening is their fear of change. Considering all the garbage I’ve eaten through the past administration which included higher prices, deregulation of everything, CAFTA and a personal war—-I’ll take my chances on change in Energy policy–which probably will do less to hurt the people and more to redistribute wealth than Tycoons want to see. Thank goodness the Democrats have a “super-majority”.
