We Can’t Address Climate Change Without Nuclear Energy
Rep. Chuck Fleischmann (TN-03)
Energy Innovation Agenda: Clean Energy Infrastructure
In Rep. Fleischmann’s home state of Tennessee, nuclear energy accounts for nearly 80% of the state’s clean energy production. As we add more renewables to our grid, the importance of including nuclear energy, which is available 24/7, is only increasing. Added benefits, Rep. Fleischmann notes, are the safe, high wage jobs this industry creates for America’s communities.
In a recent op-ed, Rep. Fleischmann also noted nuclear’s critical role in America’s national security. “As nations like China and Russia heavily invest in nuclear energy, the United States has fallen behind. While China has 12 nuclear reactors currently under construction and Russia has 10 planned or underway, the United States currently only has two reactors under construction,” he wrote. It is critical for our future that the United States does not allow ourselves to fall behind.
