There is Room to Grow the Hydropower Industry
Rep. Dan Newhouse (WA-04)
Energy Innovation Agenda: Clean Energy Infrastructure
Bill: Pacific Northwest Pumped Storage Hydropower Development Act of 2021

Hydropower provides nearly 75% of Washington’s energy production, and the state’s citizens also pay one of the lowest rates for energy used by the residential, commercial, and industrial transportation sectors. For families and business owners, lower energy bills translate to real savings that can help fuel the state’s growing communities. The good news is, as Rep. Newhouse says, there is room to grow this industry.

The Pacific Northwest Pumped Storage Hydropower Development Act of 2021 will simplify permitting processes for non-federal hydropower projects in the region. More immediately, it would pave the way for a large new pump storage project at Banks Lake in Washington, providing a critical source of carbon free energy and creating new jobs in the community.
